Hearing itinerant services are provided to children whose hearing impairment adversely affects educational performance. Following an audiological exam, a functional hearing evaluation is conducted in which a variety of assessments and observations are completed. If the student is determined to be eligible, the student’s needs are addressed through direct and/or consultative services. The Itinerant teacher provides training and supports to the child’s educational team. Specific areas of instruction may include developing skills in areas of oral and written language, auditory training, speech reading, self-advocacy and coping/adaptive strategies.
